Before Treatments:
Omega 3/Fish Oil Supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections. Alcohol can also thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising post-injection, so we recommend you avoid alcoholic beverages several days before injections.
Schedule your appointment at least 1-2 weeks before a special event, such as a wedding or a vacation due to the risk of bruising and swelling post-treatment.
Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a severe rash, cold sore, or blemish in the treatment area.
To decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment, ensure you have had a recent meal before your procedure, including food and drink.
Please warn the provider if you have a history of fainting.
Consider taking Arnica tablets 1 week before injections to prevent bruising.
Day of your procedure:
Do not wear makeup, contact lenses, or jewelry on the day of your procedure.
Reminder
Medical clearance would be completed before your treatment. New clients should expect a link to a video call before their treatment date.
What to expect
A small bruise may appear at the site of injection.
It can take approximately 4 to 7 days for results to be seen and it should be almost fully in effect at 2 weeks postinjection.
The effects of the injections can be seen as early as 5 days post-injection and as late as 3 weeks post-injection. Most people see an effect in about a week (or less). Full effect, especially for furrows between the eyebrows, can take a full 2-3 weeks.
If the desired result is not seen after 2 weeks of your treatment, you may need additional product. If you were not already scheduled for a recheck, please contact our office for a recheck if you feel corrections are needed.
The effects of neurotoxin products can last from about 1 to 6 months, with the average being about 3-4 months.
After your procedure

Do NOT manipulate the treated area for 4 hours following treatment.

Do NOT receive facials, facial laser treatments or microdermabrasion for at least 10 days after injections.

Do NOT lie down or perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for 4 hours after your neurotoxin treatment. This will prevent the product from migrating into the area around your eye and causing drooping of the eyelid.

Exercise the treated muscles 10 times per hour for the next day or two to increase the effect of the injections.
Precautions
If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact our office immediately: dusky or white discoloration of injected areas, mottling or unusual bruising, severe or increasing pain, redness, increased warmth or coolness to touch, severe swelling, itching, blisters, difficulty swallowing or smiling, fever, or chills. If you notice the onset of any of these symptoms, call our office immediately to speak with a provider. If the symptoms are severe, please call 911 or go to the emergency room.
Follow-up
Schedule your follow-up appointment after your procedure is done.
Usually, the best results are seen with a series of 3-4 treatments, depending on each patient’s skin quality and goals. For certain treatments such as acne scarring, it is typical to expect to have a series of 6-8 treatments for best results. This will be discussed with your provider at your visits and will vary for each patient.
Skin improvement may be seen as early as after the first treatment and will continue to improve with subsequent treatments.
Post-Treatment Skincare Regimen Instructions
Immediately after your treatment:

Once you leave the office, you do not have to do anything to the treatment area. Keep the area clean by avoiding touching your hands or clothing directly into the area.

Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated area for 24 hours.

Stay upright for at least 4 hours to prevent the Botox from settling unevenly.

Do not apply makeup or use any skincare products on the treated area for 4 hours.
For the Next 24 Hours:

Avoid strenuous exercise or physical activity.

Do not sleep on your face or side where the injections were administered.

Use a cold compress to reduce swelling and bruising.

Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
